Model Bruni marries French president

Former international model Carla Bruni married French president Nicolas Sarkozy on Saturday in Paris.
The couple walked down the aisle at the presidential Elysee Palace, less than three months after they reportedly first met.
In a short statement, the couple said that they "were married... in the presence of their families in the strictest privacy."
The official who had performed the ceremony, Francois Lebel, mayor of Paris' eighth arrondissement said, "The bride wore white; she was ravishing, as usual and the groom wasn't bad either."
53-years-old Sarkozy married Bruni, thirteen years his junior, in the presence of 20 close family and friends, Lebel said.
He called the ceremony "a moment of family intimacy for the young newlyweds, of great simplicity and apparently a lot of affection between the spouses."
"I wished them a lot of happiness," he said.
At a news conference in January, Sarkozy revealed that the relationship was "serious" and hinted that wedding plans were in the works.
However he refused to reveal the date for a wedding, saying only that France might learn about the nuptials once they had already taken place.

Film director Norman Jewison calls Canadian artists our most precious commodity

TORONTO - Acclaimed film director Norman Jewison says those who work in Canada's film community should be treasured and supported as ambassadors of Canuck culture.

While refraining from any overt demands for funding or political policy, the "Moonstruck" director said Monday that the film industry is driven by talent, not cash or resources.

Jewison made the comments as he accepted an honorary doctor of letters from Ryerson University and told graduates to stay true to their individual convictions.

"Talent is the engine that drives our industry and Canada has the resources and we must do more to build on our inventory of talent," Jewison said in a convocation address to graduates in film, fashion, media and photography.

"The power of our arts is the essence of Canada; artists are our most precious commodity because we supply the images and the words through which we see and understand ourselves as a people."

"It's time to show the world we have more to offer than hockey and pulp and paper, oil and minerals and poutine."

With a career that spans six decades, Jewison is one of Canada's most respected and honoured film directors.

The 81-year-old filmmaker, known for such classics as "Moonstruck," "In the Heat of the Night," "The Hurricane" and "A Soldier's Story," left the stage immediately following his speech with organizers explaining he had to attend another award ceremony by the American Film Institute.

The AFI was to present Jewison with a doctorate of fine arts on Wednesday.

Jewison challenged the new graduates to never compromise personal beliefs and to protect themselves against the onslaught of influences that would rob them of individuality.

"It's tough because our culture today is obsessed with celebrity," he said.

"The world is driven by media. As Bill Goldman, the celebrated screenwriter and a good friend of mine said, we live in the days of hype and glory but film still remains. We still go to the movies. Motion pictures are still the most viable, the most prestigious form of mass media."

One of the seminal figures of new wave, Adam Ant (born Stuart Leslie Goddard) had several distinct phases to his calling. Initially, he explored a jaggy, guitar-oriented post-punk with his group Adam and the Ants before giving way to a more pop-oriented, glam-tinged musical direction that brought him to the top of the charts. After that had escape its course, he refashioned himself as a mainstream isaac Merrit Singer, which enabled him to stretch his life history out for a mates of age. Once it seemed that his musical career had evaporated, he made an unexpected comeback in the early '90s as an adult alternative artist. During all this time, he recorded various great pop singles and had a surprisingly big shock on alternative john Rock.

Adam Ant formed Adam and the Ants with guitar player Lester Square, bassist Andy Warren, and drummer Paul Flanagan in London in 1977. The group's attack was more theatrical than most punk rocker groups, incorporating sadomasochistic mental imagery into their concerts. During this time, the group's lineup was reasonably unstable, with Square beingness replaced by Mark Gaumont. The banding released their debut, Dirk Wears White Sox, on the independent label Do It in 1979. Dirk was an ambitious and somewhat dark album, filled with arrhythmic rhythms, angular guitar riffs, and elements of glam careen crept into Adam's vocals; Adam reacquired the rights to the record book in 1983, reissuing it in a resequenced and remixed form, with the tracks "Catholic Day" and "Day I Met God" replaced by "Zerox" and "Recoil," as well as including a new variation of "Cartrouble."

At the time of its button, Dirk Wears White Sox wasn't a critical or commercial success, and the band felt the pauperism to rework their image. Ant hired Malcolm McLaren, the manager of the Sex Pistols, to help redefine their range. McLaren garbed the band in plagiarizer outfits and suggested a more accessible and pop-oriented, rhythmic magnetic declination on punk. Adam and the Ants followed his advice, preparing real for a new album. However, McLaren persuaded all of the Ants to leave Adam, victimization them as the core members of Bow Wow Wow. Adam Ant at once formed a new variation of the Ants, adding guitar player Marco Pirroni, bassist Kevin Mooney, and drummers Terry Lee Miall and Merrick (born Chris Hughes). Pirroni, in peculiar, became selfsame crucial in the band's musical charge, co-writing the absolute majority of the songs with Adam, thence origin a collaboration between the duette that would persist in into the '90s.

Goaded by a relentless, driving beat and chanting melodies, the new band's first album, 1980's Kings of the Wild Frontier, became an tremendous strike in the U.K., launching trey Top Ten hit singles, including the number deuce "Emmet Music." The band's success was helped by a serial of visually enticing videos, prominently featuring the penny-pinching, giving Adam Ant decked proscribed in pirate gear. Prince Charming, released the undermentioned class, retained the same formula as Kings of the Wild Frontier, spawning 2 issue unrivaled singles, "Stand and Deliver" and "Prince Charming." Even though the album was a commercial winner, the formula was origin to have on thin.

Afterwards Prince Charming, Adam Ant ditched the Ants for a solo career, retaining Marco Pirroni as a songwriting quisling and a load-bearing musician. Adam's number 1 solo album, Quaker or Foe, was released in 1982 and featured the numeral one single "Dainty Two Shoes" and the Top Ten title cut. Although his side by side album, 1983's Undress, had some highlights and hit singles, it pronounced the terminal of his reign as one of Britain's top crop up stars.

Released in 1985, the Tony Visconti-produced Vive le Rock had some fun moments, only the operation was besides studied and the record didn't gain whatsoever hit singles, so Adam Ant pursued a amazingly successful life history in acting. In 1990, Ant made a comeback with the catchy hit single "Room at the Top" from the Manners & Physique record, but the album failed to produce another hit single. For the side by side five long time, Ant concentrated on acting.

By the time Adam Ant returned to recording in 1995, echoes of his music could be heard in the spiky singles of Elastica, the neo-goth industrial rock of Nine Inch Nails, and the pseudo-glam of Suede. Instead of capitalizing on the burgeoning new wave revitalisation, Adam Ant's 1995 comeback Marvellous had little to do with the stylish, intensely rhythmic medicine he made in the early '80s. Instead, the album repositioned him as a more mature pop-rocker, with crafted songs that featured acoustic guitars as conspicuously as electrics. The album was a mince strike in the U.S. and the U.K., as was the single "Marvellous."

Get Ready For A Kate Fight!

Friends of Kate Moss say she's furious with Sienna Miller over the way the she handled her break-up with the Rhys Ifans, one of the supermodel's closest friends.

According to Britain's Daily Mail, when the couple got together last year, Kate warned the Alfie actress not to break his heart.

But last week Sienna, 26, is said to have ended the year-long relationship over the phone, and is now ignoring Rhys's calls and texts, leaving him devastated and hitting the bottle hard.

Now sources close to the supermodel, 34, say she is livid and planning to confront Sienna the next chance she gets.

"Rhys is probably Kate's best male friend," a friend told the paper. "In fact, she's as close to him as a sister and she's very protective of him because she knows his vulnerabilities.

"Kate's not someone you'd want on the opposing team. She's a formidable woman and very loyal when it comes to her friends.

"Kate has taken Rhys in and told him he can stay at her place for as long as he wants. He's in a bad way and she's really angry at Sienna, even though she knew she'd never stay with Rhys."

The couple are said to have split last weekend because Rhys was jealous about Sienna spending time with her ex, another Welsh actor, Brothers and Sisters star Matthew Rhys, 33.

Zara Phillips jets in for rugby

Princess Zara Phillips, the Queen's granddaughter, has jetted into New Zealand to support the England rugby team.

Phillips, whose boyfriend Mike Tindall plays centre for England, had lunch today at a restaurant on Christchurch's The Strip with a group of friends.

She told The Press she was in town for the rugby on Saturday night, but objected to being filmed or photographed while eating.

"Do you do this to normal people?'' she asked.

Phillips was previously romantically linked to former All Black Caleb Ralph.

Back home in Britain the England team was on the front page of British tabloids today amid allegations of sexual misconduct after Saturday's test loss in Auckland.

Auckland police have confirmed that an investigation is under way into allegations against four players, but no formal complaint had been made.

The players have not been named.

The Sun tabloid reported today that a Kiwi beauty had accused two England rugby stars of rape after having sex with them willingly.

Citing sources within the England camp, The Sun said reported that the players insisted the woman "was totally up for it.”

They said the 18-year-old girl had been eager to have sex with one man in his Hilton Hotel suite.

And they claimed she did not object when his pal arrived from the next room to join in.

Two more England aces were quizzed after it was said they saw  sex acts involving the girl.

The Sun reported an Englad rugby source as saying: "Two players admitted three-in-a-bed sex with the girl.

"She’d pursued them from the start and phoned the Hilton to find where they were drinking."

The players all claim the girl was calm and in good spirits when she left early on Sunday.

But hours later team chiefs had a call from police revealing a "serious allegation" of a sex attack had been made.
